Berserk Volume 3 Griffith and the Band of the Hawk Enter the Scene

During a siege on a castle, Guts is spotted by Griffith, the charismatic and enigmatic leader of the Band of the Hawk, a feared and respected mercenary group. Griffith is instantly intrigued by Guts’ reckless fighting style and overwhelming force.

When Guts’ mercenary group is hired by the enemy, Guts ends up fighting the Band of the Hawk. He defeats several of their top fighters, including Corkus and Pippin, showcasing his raw talent.

Then comes Guts’ first duel with Griffith, a pivotal moment in the series.

The Legendary Duel: Guts vs. Griffith

Griffith challenges Guts to a duel, stating that if he wins, Guts must join the Band of the Hawk. Guts, prideful and defiant, agrees. But despite his brute strength, Guts is defeated swiftly and decisively. Griffith’s precision and strategy overpower Guts’ fury and power.

This loss humiliates Guts—but also marks the beginning of a deep, complex, and ultimately tragic relationship between the two men.
